*Workshop on Mathematical/Statistical Software Packages for **Data Analysis, Modelling and
Simulation April 22-24,1999*

Introduction

In recent times, the important role of Mathematical / Statistical Software
Packages in doing data analysis, modelling and simulation of industrial
problems is slowly being realised. As a result of this the use of such
software packages in Indian industries has increased manyfold. Besides,
these packages also offer excellent graphics facilities for
visualisation.

Objectives

- To demonstrate the power of some of the modern Mathematical/Statistical Software Packages such as MATHEMATICA, MATLAB, OPTIMIZE, SAS etc.
- To expose participants to mathematical and statistical techniques used in industrial problems.
- To give online computing experience through Tutorial Sessions.

- CAI Environment A Computer Aided Instruction (CAI) environment along with LCD projector will be used. PC will be made available to each participants, to mathematical and statistical techniques used in industrial problems.
- Lecture Material The contents of the workshop are grouped into several SECTIONS, each of which corresponds to one of the software packages. A copy of the lecture material will be given to each participant. The courseware will also include a number of exercises which will be discussed during Tutorial Sessions.
- Tutorial Sessions Number of exercises will be discussed during Tutorial Session through courseware for enhancing understanding of different packages.
- Modes of Presentation All lectures will be conducted using the following unified format.

1. Introduction to the Basic Structure of the Software Package.

2. Presentation of some of the complex algorithms.

3. Discussion on Industrial Case Studies

4. Tutorial Sessions.

Target Audience The industry personnel and managers who are involved in data analysis, modelling and simulation would greatly benefit from this workshop.
