How to do well:

Attend the classes, and try to understand as much as possible in the class. Ask questions during class and try to get your doubts cleared right away. Review the material once you go back, attempt the assigned problems, and discuss the same with your classmates. You can also discuss any unresolved queries with me during the next class, or during my office hours. Reviewing the material covered in class and solving problems are a major part of the learning process in mathematics, and it is essential that students work out their own problems. You are encouraged to discuss the problems, but you must write your own solutions.

Attendance:

  • Please do not be late to class. If you are not in when the attendance is taken, you will be marked absent.
  • You are expected to attend at least 80% of the classes. The 20% permitted absences include emergencies of all kinds.
  • A DX grade may be awarded if your attendance falls below 70%.
  • If you miss a class, it is your duty to find out the material covered, the announcements made, etc., during class.

Quizzes/Exams:

  • Please expect a quiz or an exam every two weeks. Some quizzes may be unannounced.
  • Your lowest quiz will be dropped, so no re-quizzes will be conducted.
  • Please report any mistake in your scores in a quiz/midsem within a week after they are handed back in class. Your marks in each test will be frozen after 7 days of handing them back, and will not be changed after that.
  • Make-up exams for midsem and final will be as per institute rules. If you are present for a midsem or final, you will not be permitted a re-exam.

Academic Honesty:

It is obligatory on your part to be honest and not to violate the academic integrity of the Institute. Any form of academic dishonesty, including, but not limited to cheating, plagiarism, submitting as one's own the same or substantially similar work of another, will not be tolerated. If you are found indulging in academic misconduct, you will get an FR in this course. Further action may be taken depending on the nature of the transgression, and will invite the harshest possible penalties as per institute norms.

Disclaimer: The instructor reserves the right to modify the schedules and procedures mentioned here. Any such changes will be announced in the class. It is the responsibility of the student to keep informed of such things.
