Abstract: We shall begin preparations for the Hartshorne-Lichtenbaum Vanishing theorem which in simple terms states that if R is a complete local domain of dimension d and I is an ideal of R of positive dimension then the d-th local cohomology of R with support in the closed set V(I) vanishes.
