Title: Irreducibility of Generalised Hermite polynomials

Speaker: Saranya Nair, IIT Bombay

Abstract: Hermite polynomials are classical orthogonal polynomial sequence that arise in probability, combinatorics, numerical analysis and physics. They are named after Charles Hermite (1864) although they were studied earlier by Laplace (1810) and Chebyshev (1859). Schur (1929) studied the algebraic properties of Hermite polynomials by proving that H_{2n}(x) and H_{2n+1}(x)/x are irreducible. We consider much more generalised Hermite polynomials and their irreducibility results.
