Title: A new Nystrom method to treat a nonlinear integral equation of the second kind

Speaker: Prof. Laurence Grammont La Muse, University of Lyon, France

Abstract:

In order to treat a nonlinear integral equation, one usually discretizes the equation first to obtain a nonlinear system of a finite dimension, which is then solved by a Newton like method. We propose to apply the Newton scheme first and then discretize the linear equations obtained. We prove that, with Nystrom method as a discretization, while both approaches are not equivalent, our approach is an improvement over the classical treatment.
