Title: Recent results in 3-manifold theory
Speaker: Prof.David Gabai, Princeton University
Abstract: The last 10 years have seen waves of remarkable advances in 3-manifold theory through the resolution of Thurston's geometrization conjecture, Marden's tameness conjecture, Waldhausen's virtual Haken conjecture and Wise's virtual special conjecture. We will survey these results which have clarified the rich structure of the topology, geometry and group theory of 3-dimensional manifolds.
