Title: Oscillations in arithmetic sequences

Abstract: Measuring oscillations in arithmetic sequences often leads to deep and challenging problems with interesting applications. For instance, having a good understanding of the sign-changes in the values of the Möbius function μ(n) will lead to a resolution of the Riemann Hypothesis. I shall describe some of the basic ideas involved in studying oscillations along with examples and applications with special emphasis on the problem of studying sign-changes in the values of the Ramanujan Tau function τ(n), and more generally to coefficients of modular forms. No prerequisites will be assumed.
