Title: Probability distributions for load sharing systems

Speaker: Prof. Jayant Deshpande, IIT Bombay

Abstract:A system typically consists of components with random lifetimes. A parallel system fails when all its components fail. In some systems the surviving components have to take on extra (or less, sometimes) load upon the failure of other components. Thus the model with independent and identically distributed component life times is not appropriate. In this talk we see how such a joint probability distribution can be modelled from first principles. Then there arise questions of estimation of parameters and testing of hypotheses concerning such models. We discuss those problems also.
