Title: Étale Cohomology and Topology of Projective Algebraic Sets

Abstract: Étale cohomology gives a way to interpret classical singular cohomology groups of algebraic varieties in purely algebraic terms. In this talk we will explain how étale cohomology has been applied to prove interesting new results on the topology of projective algebraic sets.
