Title: Construction of Hyperbolic Groups

Speaker: M. S. Raghunathan, TIFR Mumbai

Abstract: A finitely generated group is hyperbolic if the word metric on it is hyperbolic. A wealth of examples of hyperbolic groups are given by discrete cocompact groups in the Lie groups SO(n,1) - the Lorentz group of the quadratic form of signature (n,1). Except in the case n =2, practically all available constructions of these groups are based in number theory. In this talk I will describe some of these arithmetical constructions.
