Title: Cohomology of Arithmetic Groups

Abstract: The cohomology of arithmetic groups, which lies at the confluence of Algebra, Number Theory, Representation Theory and Algebro-Differential Geometry, has been a very vibrant area of research for more than half a century. It plays a fundamental role in the Langlands Program. In this talk I will introduce the main objects of study, and I hope to give a feeling for the some of the dominant questions that guide this subject. Towards the end of my talk, time permitting, I will describe some of my recent results obtained in an ongoing collaborative work with Chandrasheel Bhagwat.
