Title: Homogenization
Speaker: S. R. Srinivasa Varadhan, Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences
Abstract: In many situations, differential equations have coefficients that are highly oscillatory functions. This often arises because of rescaling. One is interested in the behavior of the solutions after rescaling. The limit usually satisfies a similar differential equation which is homogeneous in the space variables. The problem is to prove it and identify the equation.
Note: The lecture will assume only basic knowledge of differential equations and probability theory
