**Title:** Number of rational points on varieties over finite fields and
applications

**Speaker:** Mrinmoy Datta, IIT Bombay

**Abstract:** This series of talks is directed towards various results
concerning maximum possible number of rational points on (not necessarily
irreducible) varieties defined over a finite field and its application to
computing higher weights of Reed-Muller codes. In this talk I would state
the Tsfasman Boguslavsky conjecture, a result by Zanella towards the same and
prove some auxiliary results which will help in resolving the conjecture.
