Title: Bishop's Lemma on Analytic Polyhedrons

Speaker: Prof. R. R. Simha (retired) School of Maths T. I. F. R.

Abstract: An analytic polyhedron of order n (or less) in a noncompact connected complex manifold X is the inverse image of the unit polydisc in C^n by a holomorphic map of X into C^n. In this talk, we explain [WINDOWS-1252?]Bishop’s ingenious elementary method of exhausting such a polyhedron by polyhedra of lower order under suitable conditions, which enables him to give easy proofs of deep results about Stein manifolds. No background in Several Complex Variables is assumed.
