Title: A Simple Topological Invariant with Interesting Applications

Abstract: We study the group of continuous maps of a compact space K into the unit circle under an obvious equivalence relation and give two interesting applications to Jordan curve theorem and fundamental group of compact Lie groups. The lecture will be accessible to M. Sc. students.
