Title: Nodal lines of random functions - length and number

Speaker: Manjunath Krishnapur, IISc Bangalore

Abstract: For a smooth real-valued function F on the plane (or any manifold), the set {x:F(x)=0} is called its nodal set. When F is random, so is its nodal set, and it is of interest to study various features of this random set, such as its length or the number of nodal lines. We survey some recent results in this area. No prior familiarity with the topic is assumed.
