Karnik wrote his M.Sc. dissertation on Class Field Theory,
which was completed in 1993. Subsequently, he spent some time at the
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, and later moved to the
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, where
he did a Ph.D. in Mathematics under the supervision of
Prof. Dolgachev. At the same time,
he did a Masters in Applied Economics from the Business School of the
University of Michigan. Currently, he is working as a Research
Associate in the Financial Analysis Research Division of
Insurance Services Office Inc.,
at the World Trade Center in New York.
