Description:
Analysis Seminar. Speaker: Haripada Sau. Affiliation: Virginia Tech, USA. Date and Time: Wednesday 27 March, 3.00 pm - 4.00 pm. Venue: Ramanujan Hall, Department of Mathematics. Title: Dilation Theory on the Bidisk Revisited. Abstract: In this talk, we shall briefly recall the dilation theory on the unit disk and the bidisk developed by Sz.-Nagy -- Foias in 1950s and by Ando in 1963, respectively. Popular Talk. Speaker: Reebhu Bhattacharyya. Date and Time: Wednesday 27 March, 4:30 pm - 5.30 pm. Venue: Ramanujan Hall, Department of Mathematics. Title: Geometric Proof of the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra. Abstract: We aim to provide a proof of the fundamental theorem of algebra based on winding numbers of curves. If time permits, we will discuss a second proof using the notion of degree of a smooth map between compact manifolds.
