Title: Asymptotic mean value property, a theorem of Plancherel and Polya. Abstract: In rank one Riemannian symmetric spaces of noncompact type, we shall characterize the eigenfunctions of the Laplace--Beltrami operator with arbitrary eigenvalues through an asymptotic version of the ball mean value property. This is joint work with Muna Naik and Swagato K Ray.
